W1 : Countering Gentrification

dav

Week 1 : 12 July 2016

The pre-thesis semester had been kickstarted on 12 July with a simple introduction to three design units. I had signed up with Unit 3 that led by Dr. Naziaty and Kevin Mark Low, which I personally feel Unit 3 have a very clear unit theme that is very meaningful to develop as design thesis project, which is “Countering Gentrification“.

Nowadays, I always feel architecture take no power in the country development. We are getting more likely a service provider for the client / developer, which the money speak louder and decide how the design of the building like for them to be able for market and sell. I am always eager to find out the balancing point between developing an area while maintaining a good design living environment and social connection with the surrounding.

I am looking forward to the outcome of this design thesis, and where the balancing point will be.

Some reading materials searched from Google gave me some clearer images on Gentrification and what’s happen on other countries.
